When giving piano lessons to children, I usually begin by playing without musical notes. I gently prepare the way for their introduction to the “language of music”, playing popular melodies by ear, finger exercises/games, movement games, games with rhyme and meter; getting to know the keys, learning by playing, and becoming assuredly oriented with them; introduction to the names of the keys.

The first pieces already follow after the musical notes; guided finger exercises for further development of the motor skills (piano technique); instructions for practicing at home; practicing in a time-saving and efficient way, identifying/recognizing difficulties and working in a solutions-oriented way.

Progress depends also on how much the student him/herself invests.

Playing the piano requires and – this is what’s good about it – at the same time promotes many skills: body-sense and feeling (tactile sense - touch), acoustic perception (aural sense – hearing), vision sense, movement sequences / coordination (motor skills), ability to concentrate, solutions-oriented behavior/attitude towards problems, dealing with frustration appropriately, self-expression of abilities, presentation of oneself, time management, and last but not least, social skills – dealing and interacting with others.

Here is to whom my offer is directed:

Adult Beginners and Returning Piano Students

I have gained a lot of experience in teaching adults through my instructional work at the public / community college (Volkshochschule). My oldest student was over eighty years old and had much passion in learning.

I will be happy to help out and support you with your first-ever lesson or with a refresher of what you have already learned before.

Here’s more:

  • You would like to work on classical literature for beginners. You want improvement in the fine finger motor skills, ability to memorize, coordination and the like.

  • You wish to play popular melodies from the pop, rock, musical, and jazz genres on the piano.

  • You are interested in how music is “made” – musical theory, analysis.

  • You want to be able to sit by the piano, compose music without notes in an instant, and improvise. In this way, you learn to tap the full potential and explore the possibilities of the piano as an instrument. I can offer you valuable tips and directions in this area.

  • I will render assistance if you would like to try to make your own compositions.
